On Wednesday 10th October 2018, Smart Directors Tim Potts and Will Rendell are taking to the streets and joining a team of up to 100 local business people in sleeping out for the night, all in aid of Smart’s charity of the year, Caring for Communities and People (CCP).
The event will see Tim and Will sleep “rough” within the grounds of Gloucester Rugby Club to support World Homeless Day. The conditions are set to be as genuine as possible and they guys are expected to come to work as normal the next day. No lie ins or days off. For their efforts they are hoping to raise a challenging target of £1,000 between them.
The evening aims to raise awareness of the issues facing rough sleepers in the County, whilst raising valuable funds to help CCP tackle the problem by preventing homelessness and supporting those who are already homeless into sustainable accommodation.
Cordell Ray, Chief Executive of CCP said of the event:
“We are hugely excited about this new event. By gathering together high profile business leaders in this way, we plan to highlight the plight of the homeless and give those participating just a taste of what it is like to have to sleep rough. When we came up with the idea for this event, it seemed only fitting that we coincide it with World Homeless Day with its aim of drawing attention to homeless people’s needs locally and provide opportunities for the community to get involved. SleepOut as an event has the potential to raise a very substantial sum of money that will go towards our work in preventing homelessness and supporting those who are already homeless”.
Will Rendell, Technical Director at Smart said:
“As our charity of the year, we do what we can to support the great work that CCP do. Whether that’s with skill sharing, donating technical equipment or donating time and food to the annual Hamper Scamper Appeal. When we heard about the Big SleepOut we of course wanted to take part and support the plight. It’s very easy for us to live in our comfortable little bubbles unaware of the challenges others are facing, this will be a real reality check for us. We are delighted to be taking part to help raise awareness and funds.”
